In Loving Memory of

Rita Jane Golub

Obituary

Rita Golub, nee Lev, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021 at the age of 89, after a long and fulfilling life.

Family was everything to Rita. She was a strong, smart, and loving mother to Paula Harris, Sheila Newman, and Lee Golub. She was adored by her sons-in-law David Harris and Michael Newman, and her daughter-in-law Sandy Golub.

She will be forever remembered as the cool and always present Grandma Rita to Samantha Patinkin (Josh), Alex Newman (Andrea Fullerton), Laura Newman (Alex Nemz), Scott Newman, Taylor Golub, and Nicole Golub. She beamed as great-grandmother to Sienna and Sage Patinkin, Shayna and Isabel Newman.

Rita is also survived by her two loving sisters Marcy Bloom and Vicki Lev, and her former husband, lifelong friend Gene Golub (Hanna).

Rita was a treasured friend to many, and an independent woman who maintained a positive attitude throughout her life. She had a myriad of interests, including art and theatre, loved to work on puzzles and play golf, and excelled at duplicate bridge, a game she took very seriously.

Rita had a philanthropic heart. She volunteered her time to a variety of causes including WBBM’s consumer advocacy ‘Call for Action’ hotline, Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Surgical Waiting Room, and the North Shore Friends of Y-ME.

To honor Rita, please consider memorial donations to the Cancer Wellness Center https://www.cancerwellness.org/ways-to-donate/donate-now/, the American Contract Bridge League Charity Foundation https://www.acbl.org/about-acbl/foundations/charity-foundation/, or a charity of your choice.

Due to COVID concerns, the family is holding a private Memorial Service on Friday, September 10, 2021. If you’d like to celebrate Rita’s extraordinary life and enormous legacy of love, you can livestream or watch a recording of the service.
