Obituary

Adele Waitz, nee Zamutt, age 99, of Chicago, beloved wife of the late Kenneth, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Adele was born in Chicago to Alex and Ann Zamutt on Sept. 19, 1922.

Adele had a marriage that lasted 51 years filled with love, joy and a lifetime of treasured memories. For those who were lucky enough to cross her path she always had a kind word and a smile. She was a devoted volunteer wearing her pink smock at Edgewater Hospital. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends are a testament to a life well lived. Each day Adele would wake up ready to conquer a new adventure wherever it would lead. Some of her adventures included going to the Chicago Bears games, walking down State Street viewing the holiday windows at Marshall Fields and dining in the Walnut room. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed going to the Art Institute. She kept in touch with classmates from the Roosevelt High School class of February 1941 by attending reunions. She enjoyed spending time with friends including those she first met in high school. She had a storybook relationship with her brother and they were always looking out each other.

Adele was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a daughter-in-law, a sister-in-law, a mother, an aunt, a mother-in-law, a grandmother, a cousin, a friend. Adele was a one-of-a-kind phenomenal woman. Adele was funny, she made us laugh and she made us cry. There was never a dull moment with Adele.

Adele is survived by her three children: sons Lee (Debbie) Waitz and Steven (Andrea) Waitz, and daughter Nancy Waitz; grandchildren Paul Waitz; Andrea Waitz (Richard) Nevitt ; Matthew (Missi) Waitz; Amy (Bryan) Cope; Mollie-Ann (Tyson) Taylor, and Brendan (Amanda) Waitz. Great-grandchildren Kenneth Nevitt, Trevor Nevitt, Anna Cope; Leah Cope; Daniel Cope; Lydia Cope; Ashlan Waitz; Beckett Waitz; Ellie Waitz; Kayla-Rose Perkins; Brooklyn Perkins; Gavin Taylor; Sienna Waitz; Ashton Waitz.
