Obituary
Rabbi Stanley Kazan, 91, passed away peacefully April 29, beloved husband for 61 wonderful years to Frances, nee Rosin; devoted father of Jonathan (Marla), David (Joan) and Daniel (Tracy); cherished grandfather of Ronit (Philip) Shapiro, Grant, Ari, Molly, Adina, Josh, Andrew and Tori Kazan; adored great grandfather of Tali Shapiro; dear brother of Claire (the late Jonas) Kessler; fond brother-in-law of Dr. Norman (the late Norma) Rosin; loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Born in Brooklyn, NY March 26, 1930 to immigrant parents, an uncle recognized Stanley's academic potential and encouraged his educational goals. After graduating from CCNY, Stanley was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary before earning a doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from Yale University. He served as Rabbi of Congregation Rodef Shalom in Tampa, Florida and founded Tampa's Hillel Academy. Stanley and his wife Frances moved their family to Northbrook when he became Assistant Professor at Spertus College of Judaica. After leading Congregation Moriah in Deerfield, Stanley served as Chaplain/Ethicist at Lutheran General Hospital before retiring at the age of 80. Stanley's greatest joy was his family.
