Obituary

On March 7, 1947, Robert Fries was born to Robert and Marjorie Fries in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Notre Dame High School, went to Northeastern, and then married Maria on October 11, 1969, and in 1972 they welcomed their daughter, Rebecca. Robert loved his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as Poppy. Bob loved to cook, work his crossword puzzles, and cut out the “Garfield” and "Love Is" cartoons to share with his daughter and granddaughters. He loved golf, fishing, his Cubbies, the Bears (when they were winning), John Wayne movies, and Notre Dame football. Everybody loved Bob, and he always greeted people with a smile and a "how are you on this fine day." Poppy Fries loved his weekly breakfast ritual with family at his favorite restaurants, especially “The Buffalo.” We will miss his daily stroll down the stairs greeting us with a "ta-da," as if King Bob the First had entered the room.

Robert is survived by his wife, Maria, his daughter Rebecca (Sheridan), Dan, his favorite son-in-law (Bob's words), his grandchildren Timothy, Caleb, Anna, Ava, and Nolan, his great-grandson. Additionally, he welcomed Rachel, Tyler, Ashley, Andrea, Matti, and Blaire as members of his family. Robert had seven brothers and sisters. Dennis, who gave the last full measure of devotion in Vietnam, Tom, Bill, Pat, Cathy, Jan, and Tina.
