Obituary

Philip Cowan, age 83, adored husband of Arleen Malkin Cowan, to whom he was married to for 62 years; loving father of Lisa (Chris) Junker and Laura (Michael) Fine; proud grandfather of Ashley, Allie and Joshua Junker and Jeremy and Jacob Fine; great grandfather of Jason and Jessica; cherished brother of Ned (late Linda) Cowan and Eleanor (Arnold) Leib; beloved brother-in-law of the late Jerry (Judith) Malkin. Philip was born on the north side of Chicago, Ainslie Street. He honorably served his country, graduated from the University of Illinois and then received his Juris Doctor from the DePaul University College of Law. He then practiced law at Berger, Newmark and Fenchel, P.C. for more than six decades where he endeared himself to his clients and colleagues alike, ultimately serving as the firm’s Managing Partner. He began and ended each day with a call to his identical twin Ned, who he affectionately referred to as “Butch”. The center of his universe was his wife Arleen, who he loved and worshiped more than anything else in the world. Philip lived for his family and the game of golf, in that order. He was proud, beyond measure of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, alike, and praised their accomplishments to anyone who cared to listen. He was bigger than life itself and instilled in all that knew him a zest for family, gracious living and lifelong friendships. Memorial Service Wednesday, 12 Noon CT at Temple Jeremiah, 937 N. Happ Rd., Northfield. The service will be livestreamed on Philip’s webpage at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, cure.pcf.org or Israel ParaSport Center, afiscd.org. Info: The Goldman Funeral Group (847) 478-1600.
