Obituary
Born on October 24, 1929 in Leipzig Germany to Frank & Erika Lindow. The family felt the persecution of the Nazi regime early on in his life. The family settled in Chicago after relocations in England and Ecuador. Manfred married Helen Doris Franks on March 4, 1956 the love of his life at Congregation Knesseth Israel "CKI" in Elgin. They lived in Chicago for a short time where Helen ran a neighborhood grocery store on the corner of Irving Park and Laramie in Portage Park while Manfred delivered for Star Cleaners.
Manfred went to night school where he learned refrigeration repair. They returned to Marengo in 1958 shortly after their first child was born and opened Lindow's Appliance the same year. For the next 53 years they provided appliances, electronics and so much more to so many in numerous communities. Manfred had an uncanny ability to repair anything-he had two mantras 1st- if you could take it apart, then you can fix the problem and put it back together and 2nd-there was no job that was beneath him to provide for his family.
Together they raised their three Children Edgar, Gene (Sandy), & Kenneth (Bekki). They have 9 grandchildren; Justin Pfeifer, Danielle, Melissa, Geoffrey, Yehuda (Chai B'racha), Shimi, Tamima, Sara & Bracha.
Manfred was passionate about Family, Friends, God, Free Masonry & Shriners. Every morning Manfred would say morning prayers with his boys before breakfast. Manfred was active in B'nai Brith men's organization where he was president and a regional board member. Manfred became a master mason in April 1967. Throughout the next 51 years he was devoted to the furthering the craft thru his work as a Master Mason, Scottish Rite and in the Tebala Shrine. On August 26, 2008 his hard work was recognized and was conferred the 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite which is the highest level of recognition awarded but only a select handful ever receive.
Manfred passed away on December 23, 2018 to be reunited with his parents, infant brother and with so many that had influenced him to become a son any parent could love, an incredible devoted husband, father, grandfather and fraternal brother to many.
