In Loving Memory of

Lillian Miller

Obituary

Lillian R. Miller nee Eisenstein, age 96

Loving wife of the late Harold Miller. Devoted mother of Arthur Miller, Jeremy (Tamara) Miller, and Scott (Lorin) Miller. Cherished grandmother of Andrew, Gregory, Jackson, and Graham. Dear Aunt of Alan (Ghita) Lapidus and Larry Lapidus. Loving sister of the late Evelyn Lapidus and devoted sister-in-law to Evelyn’s husband, the late Bernard (Bernie) Lapidus. Fondly remembered by so many, especially Karin Pritikin, Lesley Pritikin, and Arianna Fabri. Lillian was a life-long learner, social worker, teacher, devoted friend to many, Roosevelt Democrat, and volunteer extraordinaire. She was a proud product of the Chicago public school system where she was a straight A student. Her first professional job was as a social worker attending to the needs of Chicago’s most disadvantaged. As a primary school teacher, her proudest achievement was unlocking the world for the hundreds of children she taught to read. Lillian loved to travel domestically and overseas with her beloved late husband, Harold. The arts (Goodman Theatre, the Art Institute, Lyric Opera, and the Chicago Symphony) were a passion. During and after her teaching career, she devoted her organizational skills and energy to volunteer work. She was a long-time member of her local chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women and was twice elected its President. Lillian was also extremely proud of her work in founding and building Between Friends, an agency dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence. Lillian was a voracious reader and member of a book club that met monthly for more than 60 years. She was a life-long student who attended classes at Oakton Community College well into her 80s. Lillian was well known as a warm and caring friend. Her compassion and sound advice were widely sought and valued. We will miss her dearly. To keep everyone safe and healthy, the chapel service and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Literacy Chicago 641 West Lake, Suite 200, Chicago, Illinois 60661, https://www.literacychicago.org/ or Between Friends, P.O.
