Obituary

Jean Joy Marmor Mendel, age 95, loving wife of 44 years to the late Mervyn Mendel; much-loved daughter to the late Samuel and Ethel Marmor;  loving mother of four sons, Barry (Caryn), Scott (Liz), Allan (Kim Reilly, the late Sandy Mendel), and Jeff (Daphne) Mendel; treasured sister of the late Allan Marmor, dear grandmother of Brad (Kim) Mendel, Jackie (Steven) Glass, Sarah Trager Mendel, Jessica Trager Mendel, Michael Mendel and Vern Mendel, and Meaghan Connolly; cherished great-grandmother of Lea and Sydney Glass, Sinclair and Sebastian Trager Mendel, and Madison and Emerson Mendel.

Jean lived life with great joy, taking great pride in overseeing her modern family spanning four generations. Jean was an avid runner, winning trophies in her age group well into her 70s. She and Merv loved to golf, and she celebrated her first and only birdie at age 89 with Jeff and Daphne. She celebrated when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016. Jean was a much beloved classroom reader at Wescott Elementary School, volunteered at Misericordia for 25 years into her 90s and delivered for Meals on Wheels into her 90s. She loved her dogs (Frisky, Sonny, Chubbo, Winston, Minnie and Sadie), her cats (Misty, Sammie and Buttons), and the many dogs and cats of her children and grandchildren.

Memorial Service Monday, 2:00 p.m. CT at The Chapel, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove (1 Blk N. of Lake Cook Rd.). The service will be livestreamed on Jean’s webpage at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in Jean’s memory to Misericordia, www.misericordia.com,  Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org or  Forward Steps Foundation, www.forwardsteps.org.
