Obituary

Janice Beryl (nee Wolff) Scharf passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020. She was born on April 6, 1936 in Bronx, New York. She was the daughter of Shirley and Herbert Wolff, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Faison. Janice was married for 26 years to the love of her life, Benjamin Scharf, who preceded her in death in 1987. She was ahead of her time, traveling daily to Manhattan to work as a bookkeeper in her early twenties. She worked for many years while raising her family. After she and Ben started their family in New Jersey, they moved to Maryland in 1977. Janice worked for over twenty years as a Payroll and Benefits Administrator for Jewish Family Services, retiring in 1998. Janice often gave of her time, volunteering for B’nai B’rith Women, and served as president of Garden State Council. Janice and Ben were always involved in their religious community and became founding members of Adat Chaim Synagogue of Reisterstown/Owings Mills. Janice enjoyed playing Mah Jong, visits to the beach and getting together with long-time friends. Most important to Janice was her love of family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is the much-loved mother of Jeffrey (Rosa) Scharf and Susan (Lawrence Bush) Scharf, and cherished Grammy of Becca, Joseph, Briana and Rachel.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Adat Chaim Synagogue, Red Run Centre, 10989 Red Run Blvd. Suite 109, Owings Mills, Md. 21117 or Jewish Community Services, 5750 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, Md. 21215
