Obituary

Spielberg, Irma Florence, age 94

Born November 11, 1927, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, after a brief illness.

Over the course of her life, Irma had been a member of Women’s American ORT, City of Hope, Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary, FACES4, St Joseph’s Indian School, ACLU, and the USO. She was a Girl Scout Leader, active in her neighborhood associations, on her Marshall High School Reunion Committee, a Democratic Election Judge, a choir member at Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation and B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim, a piano teacher, and devoted friend, daughter, and mother.

She was the adored daughter of the late Mary and Nathan Goldstein, wife of the late Harold Spielberg, love of the late Harvey Saper, sister of Dr. Melvin M. (Marylou) Goldstein, beloved mother of Sondra Spielberg, Ronda Scott-Marak (Roman Marak), Natalie (Michael) Donovan; mother by choice of Rosemarie (Edwin) Reinante, and Mother-in-Law once removed of Cathryn Marak-Hairston (Sam Hairston); step-grandmother of Kris Donovan (Patty Thomas), James Donovan, and Adelaine Reinante.

Cherished aunt and great-aunt of Lawrence (Rolla) Goldstein, Steven Goldstein, Alice Biner, Rebecca Biner-Savlin (David Savlin), Gloria Kolenc, Donald Verplanke, Crystal Ann Verplanke, Seymour Fishman; dear cousin of Carol (the late Bud) Zakin, Marilyn (the late Sanford) Schoen, Joanne (Gerald) Levin, the late Edrice and Ernest Bram, the late Myron Gelt, Linda Gelt, Renee Greenman Harrington (the late) Eddy Clearwater, Marian (Edward) Lezak, (the late) Joan Weiser; devoted lifetime friend Beatrice (the late Herbert) Rudolph, legions of 2nd and 3rd generation cousins, neighbors and friends who loved her.

It was all so unexpected; impossible to prepare for. Yesterday started out as another day, a day of worry, but we had no idea how the day would end. It was our last day with you in our world. One doesn’t wake up thinking of last memories, last moments, last breaths. You have left us to grieve and remember, in tears and laughter, the light and laughter you brought to our lives. Every day, from the moment you left us, we will have a hole in our center that only your memory can fill. We are the stuff that you have made us, and that hole in our hearts will never truly empty nor truly be filled again. You will live within our hearts and in our minds forever. You will be met by those who loved and missed you, as we will now love and miss you until we are together again. You will never be alone. You will always be with them and with us. I know we will be together again someday, so neither are we left alone —but you will be sorely missed.
