Obituary
Irene Braverman-Ruzzo (affectionately known as Big I), 81, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2022. She was surrounded by family with love till the end. She was born on November 24, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA. She was a devoted daughter to the late Samuel (Shy) and Minnie Braverman and a devoted sister to Beverly Braverman-Shulman. Loving Mother of Barry (Karen) Balmuth of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Marci (Stephen) Kent of Linwood, NJ, Michael (Danette) Ruzzo of Ventnor, NJ, and Matthew (Tania) Ruzzo of Linwood NJ. Cherished Grandmother of Chad Balmuth, Mia Ruzzo, Sofia Ruzzo, Madeline Kent, Isabella Ruzzo, Sadie Kent, and Sebastian Ruzzo. She attended South Philadelphia High School and studied at Temple University. Irene went back to work after having her children and started selling real estate in Northeast Philadelphia at Home Agency. She relocated her family to Atlantic City and worked at Resorts International Casino when it first opened in 1978. She started as a cashier and then entered into a Casino Management Program at Atlantic County Community College to later become a Housekeeping Manager. Irene was an involved parent serving on many of her children’s schools PTA’s in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. She was the first Jewish PTA President/Officer at St. Michael’s School (in which she was very instrumental in raising the most money for the school). Years later she returned to real estate which was a passion of hers and worked at Philip Guber Real Estate in Atlantic City. Irene was a former Associate and Broker Associate at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. She was a former Broker/Owner at RE/MAX Achievers and Broker Associate at RE/MAX Atlantic Real Estate. Irene was a great influence in Atlantic City where she served two terms on the Atlantic City School Board, and she was involved in political platforms. Irene was an avid reader and loved getting books from the Margate City Library. She loved listening to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. She enjoyed going to the beach and sitting on her balcony looking at the bay. Irene was a single mother who worked hard to provide for her family and to better herself. The saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and that can't be truer. She had made many friends along the way and was a great friend to all who knew her. The good friends she met turned into her extended family. She was the best mother anyone could ask for and a loving grandmother. She will be sadly missed, and she will be forever in our hearts.
Her family would like to express a heartfelt gratitude to select members of the Shore Medical Center’s nursing staff, aides, and Angelic Hospice for their compassionate care during her time there. In her final hours she was made comfortable and at peace.
A synagogue service will be held on Wednesday August 17 at 12:00 pm at Congregation Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Rd, Northfield. Irene will be laid to rest with her parents and sister. A private interment will take place.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
