Obituary

Feinhandler, Helen (nee Fenton), 98, passed away peacefully in her home on February 9, 2022. Helen was the beloved daughter of the late Abraham and Rose Fenton; loving wife to the late Dr. Harold Feinhandler; devoted mother to Michael, the late Steven and the late Raymond Feinhandler; cherished grandmother of Michelle and Aaron; treasured friend to many. Helen was born and raised in Chicago, grew up during the Depression, and learned principles of thrift, industry, and self-reliance. She worked tirelessly her whole life and lived independently up until her last days. She attended the School of the Art Institute, where she learned to paint and make pottery, hobbies that she would enjoy for the rest of her life. Her paintings and pottery adorn her beloved home. Later Helen attended the Illinois Teachers' College and taught in the Chicago Public Schools for a short while. Helen kept her family together by hosting Shabbat and holiday dinners. She was an advocate for those suffering from mental health issues, giving generously to charities that worked on behalf of the infirmed. Of all tributes that could be paid to Helen, those who knew her best would say, "Oh! How she loved her sons." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ark of Chicago, www.arkchicago.org. Services were held at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home.
