Obituary

Elli J. Glist née Sperling, age 94, beloved wife of the late Norman Glist, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2021. Elli was preceded in death by her parents Adolf and Blanche Sperling; she was a cherished sister to Litzi (Harold) Marsh, loving mother of Sherri (Frank) Mariani and Catherine Glist (Murray); devoted Nana of Francis V Mariani, Alexandra (John) Johnson, Michael (Kathryn) Mastrangelo Jr, James (Brittany) Mastrangelo, and Jake Mastrangelo; doting Nana of Joseph Johnson and Anthony Johnson, caring Gigi of Clark Mastrangelo, Mackenzie Mastrangelo, Abigail Mastrangelo, Benjamin Mastrangelo, Francesca Mastrangelo, and Jack Mastrangelo, and fond Aunt to many nieces and pephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to One for One Chicago (oneforonechicago.org) and/or the Illinois Holocaust Museum (www.ilholocaustmuseum.org).

Born in Vienna, Austria in 1926; Elli, Litzi, and their parents came to the US in 1940. After attending Highland Park High School, she went to the University of Illinois where she met her true love, Norman Glist. After marriage they lived a wonderful life in Deerfield, IL where they raised their daughters, Sherri and Catherine. Elli and Norm enjoyed traveling the world, where she loved to photograph the people and places they visited. Elli continued to hone her photography skills by participating competitively in several camera clubs. She was legendary for her pies and her years of community involvement and service. However, what brought her true joy was her family.
