Obituary
Beth Mara Salamensky died of Covid-19 on April 17th, 2020, in Chicago, at the age of forty-three. Born in 1976, in Flossmoor, Illinois, to Paul Salamensky of Paterson, New Jersey, a civil servant, and Fern (Malis) Salamensky of Chicago, Beth was named for her grandfather Bernard Salamensky, a Polish-born Jewish immigrant. Her grandmother Rose (Marcuse) Salamensky was a Polish-Jewish orphan brought to America to be raised by an aunt and uncle. Notably, Beth's family included famed comedian Milton Berle. Her life was struck by tragedy in 1999, when her beloved father -- not long after proudly driving Beth east to begin her studies at New York Law School -- suddenly passed away. Persisting, she earned her law degree and moved on to practice in Los Angeles, where she found vital community at synagogue Beth Chayim Chadashim. In 2019, she was hospitalized in Chicago with kidney failure for an extended period. While at a rehabilitation facility to regain physical strength in preparation for return to daily life, she contracted Covid-19, which her body was too weakened by other conditions to survive. Beth Mara Salamensky leaves her mother Fern, cousins, and countless friends in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michael I.
