Obituary

Barnett Glickfeld JD, PhD. 82.
Beloved husband and partner of Natalia Maltsev for over 30 years. He was born in Manhattan, NY and attended the Bronx School of Science. He went to Cornell University at the age of fifteen to study mathematics. He continued his education at Columbia University and received his PhD in mathematics. He successfully solved a long-standing mathematical problem which then was named for him the Glickfeld Theorem. After graduating, he taught mathematics at Harvard University, Rockefeller University and Washington State university. In the 1980’s he was active in the civil rights movement and to make a bigger impact he decided to become a lawyer. He attended law school while teaching at Washington State University. He became a Public Defender in Seattle, WA. Later in years he worked for Boeing, Control Data Corporation. For the past 20 years he was a professor of computer science at the Northern Illinois University. He was loved by everyone who knew him. Barney was a man with a sense of humor and a great deal of wisdom. Service Sunday 10AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Interment will be private.
