Arthur Salk

Obituary

Arthur Salk, age 97, passed away peacefully in his home on November 19, 2022. Arthur is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Evelyn Salk (nee Putterman). Arthur is survived by his children Carol Salk, Bruce Salk (Barbara) and Janet Salk (Lloyd). He was an encouraging and adoring Poppy to grand-children Ryan Andrews (Johanna), Greg Andrews (Michelle), Stacey Abrams (William), Mere Abrams (Nola), Rachel Salk (David), Kevin Abrams (Alyssa), Allison Salk and Natalie Salk. He was a loving great-grandfather to Levi Andrews, Olivia Weinberg, Emery Abrams, Skye Andrews, Kai Andrews and Charlie Weinberg. Arthur is survived by his dear brother, Robert Salk, and his in-laws, Harriett Salk, Jerry Schaffner, Lila Spigelman and Myron Spigelman. He is preceded in death by in-laws Selma Schaffner, Shirley Prager and Robert Prager. Arthur was a nationally recognized architect and co-founder of the architectural firm Shayman and Salk, which at one time was responsible for designing the majority of all new nursing homes in the State of Illinois. He was an outstanding athlete (football, track, weightlifting, tennis, golf, jogging and boxing) and worked out his entire life, even into his 90's. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always present for his family and friends, never missing any activities, or important events. He loved dogs (especially Irish Setters), flying airplanes (into his 70's), making jokes, and helping people. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research, [email protected]. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 Rand Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois.
