Anita Goldberg Winston passed away on October 3, 2018, three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She was born Anita Beryl Karp in The Bronx, New York, to parents Sam and Rose Karp, Jewish immigrants from Odessa and Kiev. She graduated from Hunter College, practiced nursing; then social work. She raised her family in Plainedge, NY, and then moved to Riverdale, NY. She retired to Boynton Beach, FL and spent the last six years of her life near her daughter, in Lawrenceville, GA. She is survived by her daughter Kim Martens and son-in-law, Harry Martens; grandchildren, Sara Zuckerman and Ethan Washburn of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Leah Zuckerman and Casey Diggs of Durham, NC; and her great grandson, Taj Washburn. She is predeceased by her three husbands, including her second husband and the love of her life, Lou Goldberg and her son, Jonathan Steinberg. Anita was a wonderful woman who lived an exemplary life as a mother, wife, and grandmother, with careers as a nurse, social worker, and health food store owner. She was an activist who was very passionate about her causes: education, women’s rights, children’s rights, and liberal democracy. She truly enjoyed her volunteer work as a guardian ad litem. She loved her family and loved bringing people together, creating fabulous parties. She traveled extensively to many different countries. She had a passion for delicious food and the finer things in life. She went out of her way to help her family succeed, putting their needs before hers. Anita will be missed and fondly remembered
