Obituary
Alice Friedman Cohan Cap (nee Friedman), born May 25, 1934 is at peace with G-d in Heaven. Alice’s children Larry (Barb) Cohan, Rich (Lesli) Cohan, Steve (Cara) Cap and Dan (Rose) Cap with Alice’s grandchildren Jeremy, Nathan and Rachel Cohan said goodbye to Alice on March 5, 2018. Escaping the Holocaust on one of the last ships from Europe in December 1939 (after World War II had begun) had a life filled with sadness and joy. Alice loved traveling, animals, nature, art, opera, fine literature, poetry and the symphony. Alice worked in the Chemistry Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology for over 30 years as an administrative assistant. Many times she worked multiple jobs typing chemistry and engineering theses (before word processing) to support her children. After 52 years in her southwest side Chicago home, Alice spent the last 9 years of her life at the excellent care of Dupage Convalescent Center. For many years, Alice took her children camping to National Parks, stayed at the nature conservationist Prairie Club’s Camp Hazelhurst in southwestern Michigan and took many Florida trips to Miami and the Keys. While she did not take her dream trip on an African safari, she did get to pet giraffes and ostriches in a Texan wildlife park. Her love of Shakespeare culminated in a trip to Canada’s Stratford Festival. Memorial donations can be made to Dupage Animal Friends at dupageanimalfriends.org.
