Obituary
Richard Norton Kalmar, loving husband, father, friend and “Papa,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 88 after a weekend surrounded by his loving family.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on February 18, 1934, Richard was a proud New Yorker through and through. Despite moving to Roselle, Illinois, with his family in 1973, he maintained his love of his home state throughout his life through his support of the Yankees, his distinctive and lovable New York accent and sharing his stories with loved ones. He loved gardening, hands-on projects such as woodwork and repairing his cars, watching Western films, making people laugh, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He married his wife, Rosalie, in 1956 and created a life together full of wonderful memories and a beautiful family. Richard was always one you could count on - be that by offering advice and a listening ear, showing up for anyone who needed help, or just being there with his warm and compassionate presence.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Louis, and his mother, Helen, his sister, Renee Selden and his son, Jeffrey. He is survived and will be forever remembered by his wife Rosalie, his children Janice (Kent) McDill, Margie (John) Shay and Alan (Melanie) Kalmar, as well as his nine grandchildren, Haley McDill, Hannah Shay, Daniel McDill, Lindsey McDill, Lauren Shay, Kyle McDill, Sydnie Shay, Jackson Kalmar and Anna Kalmar, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service, Friday, 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Richard’s honor to a veterans organization of your choosing.
