Obituary

Melvin Goldstein, 87, beloved husband of Sandy, passed away peacefully at their home in Scottsdale, Arizona on September 27, 2021. Mel grew up on the Northside of Chicago, the youngest of three boys. He attended Volta Elementary School where he met lifelong friends. He graduated from Von Steuben High School in 1952 and went on to Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.

Mel served in the Korean War before taking a position at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago, retiring after 30 years. In retirement, Mel enjoyed playing racquetball, having lunch with friends, and supporting and cherishing his many nieces and nephews, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mel is lovingly remembered by Sandy Goldstein, his devoted wife of 32 years; his children Julie (Don) Wood, Adam (Alyson) Goldstein, Dawn (Roger) Samson, Michelle (Errol) Dolin, and Brian (Megan) Ogan; his grandchildren Kyle (fiance Madison) Magnus, Rachel Magnus, Niko Goldstein, Ashley (Joe) Ahr, Amanda (Michael) Vukovics, Zachary (Jessica) Samson, Benjamin (Taylor) Samson, Jake Samson, Ariel Dolin, Ashley (Aaron) Jackson, Olivia and Sophia Ogan; and his 11 (and growing) great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Rose Goldstein, and his brothers, Norman and Lawrence.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Shalom Memorial Park in Arlington Heights on Friday, October 1st at 1:00 pm. Friends and family are welcome. For information, including the link to view the service virtually, Shalom Memorial Funeral Home at www.shalom2.com or 847.255.3520.
