Obituary

Sylvia Leeb ,nee Zarkower, 104, beloved wife of the late Bernard Leeb for 60 years; loving mother of Robert (Susan) and Richard (Tova); adored Nana to Rebecca, Maia, Jordana and Aaron (Sydney); cherished great-grandmother to Lucca and Sylviad; dear aunt to many nieces.
Sylvia Leeb was born on February 10, 1917 in Columbus, Ohio. Her family later moved to Cleveland where she went to elementary school, high school and college. While in grade school, she won a contest as the " Healthiest Girl in Cleveland" and was sent to meet President Hoover in the Oval Office. She was valedictorian of her high school class and went on to receive her Master's Degree in sociology from Western Reserve in Cleveland and did further post-graduate work at the University of Chicago. Later, she worked as a social worker for different agencies in and around Chicago. She had many dear friends who adored her. She was honest, intelligent, compassionate and had a wonderful sense of humor. She had an unwavering love and a special bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was their friend, mentor, and a constant source of support and inspiration.
Sylvia and Bernard enjoyed their winters in West Palm Beach, Florida and summers in Northbrook. Her last nine years were spent in Portland, Oregon where most of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren lived. Sylvia loved theater, art, traveling all over the world with her husband and friends, reading, bridge, golf (which she played until she was 95), swimming, walking, mystery novels, restaurants, crossword puzzles, movies, discussing politics and living a healthy lifestyle. She was a wonderful painter. Most of all, her greatest delight was talking and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
