Obituary

Phyllis Celia Anker Galanter, 91, of Northbrook, loving wife of 71 years of Jules Galanter, daughter of Minnie Kushner Anker and Abe Anker, loving mother of Mickie (David) Applebaum, Joan (Matt) Lewin and Bill (Noreen) Galanter. Cherished Nana of Danny (Katie Martin-Browne) Lewin, Amy (Trent Fredrickson) Lewin, Jenny Lewin, Andy (Sophia) Applebaum, Alyssa (Danny Benedict) Applebaum, Betsy Applebaum, Nina and Allison Galanter and Kayla Mandel. Treasured great-grandmother of Gabriel Lewin. Dearest sister of the late Norman (Anita) Anker and adored cousin of Chelo Frost. Phyllis grew up in Hyde Park and was a member of Alpha Lambda Phi sorority at Hyde Park High School. She and Jules met at U of I - Navy Pier, married in 1949 and raised their family in Morton Grove. Phyllis began as a temp and ultimately became CEO at Debbie Temps and was an admired role model and friend to her 5000 employees at 8 branches. In 1993, she was honored with YWCA's "Woman on the Move" achievement award presented by Betty Friedan. Phyllis was active in many civic and charitable organizations, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to be honored by her family.
