Obituary

Melvin Sanes, 90, of Chicago, Highland Park, and Vernon Hills, IL, beloved husband of the late Nancy (neé Siegel) Sanes; father of Carol Sanes-Miller (Elliott Miller), Janet (Jim) McCormick, and Julie (Chris) Green; Papa of Benjamin (Kristina), Joshua (fiancé Samantha), and Abraham "Avi" Miller; Rebecca (Derek) Barrow, Emily and Sarah McCormick; and Anna Green; Great-grandfather of Henry Barrow; brother of the late David Sanes and brother-in-law of the late Sidney Siegel; uncle of Francine Nagin and the late Marc Sanes. Melvin was treasured by his large extended family, numerous friends, and cherished companions and caregivers Mr. Olusesan Taiwo and Mr. Sitali Muyoba. Melvin will be missed by all.


Due to the pandemic and out of concern for the safety of our family and friends, services will be private. Shiva will take place by Zoom from 2-4 pm Central time Sunday May 17; Sunday evening minyan will be 7:00-8:30 pm. If you would like to login to the virtual shiva and/or evening shiva/minyan, please contact Carol, Janet, or Julie beforehand (no later than noon Sunday); link(s) for either/both will be forwarded to you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Illinois Food Bank (https://solvehungertoday.org/).
