Joan Revsine

Obituary

Joan R. Revsine (nee Burdick) of Chicago died on Saturday at Evanston Hospital. She was 82. Cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of sixty years, Bernard, and her sons Paul (Jacqueline), Mitchell (Anna), and Norman, her grandchildren Cambria, Mahler, Dylan, and Samantha, and her brother Morton (Lois). She was born in Chicago to Dr. Maurice S. and Hannah B. Burdick. She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign after spending her first two years at the Navy Pier campus. She earned a masters degree in education from the University of Chicago. She taught in the Chicago Public School system and later as a reading specialist at Hillel Torah North Suburban Day School, Arie Crown Hebrew Day School, Wayne Thomas Elementary School, and Wilbur Wright College of the City Colleges of Chicago, and tutored numerous students in reading. Along with her husband, she was a long-time subscriber to Lyric Opera, Court Theatre, and several other theater companies, and enjoyed foreign and domestic travel. She was a member of the Chicago Botanic Garden and a volunteer docent at the Spertus Museum. She was an avid reader and presented many book reviews to various organizations. She was a co-founder of Ziona Hadassah and active with Congregation KJBS. After her retirement, she took courses at Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies.
