Obituary
George J. Kerman, age 76, passed away at home on November 26, 2021 with his cherished family by his side; after a lengthy and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. George was the very beloved husband of 51 years and best friend of Barbara nee Elliott. Devoted and loving father of Paula Julie Dobrin (Dr. Dennis Dobrin). Adoring Grampa/GG to Deena and Joshua Dobrin. Son of the late Max and the late Bea Kerman. Brother of Bernard (Iris) Kerman, the late Allan Kerman and the late Sharon Kerman. Brother in law of the late Larry Elliott. Uncle of Jay Elliott, Susan Savage and Bonnie Kerman. He was born in Chicago on April 18, 1945. Graduated from O’Keeffe Grammar School, Chicago; from South Shore High School (TARS) in January 1963 and from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1967. He was a long-time devoted fan both attending and watching all the basketball and football games at Stevenson High School-Patriots, his Drake Bulldogs, Chicago White Sox, Bears, Blackhawks and Illini. A big and treasured part of George’s life was his many years spent at Camp OJIBWA in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Starting as a camper at 11 years old in 1956, counselor, elected Chief in 1961. Spending great decades of the annual “Old Timers” weekend, there with his life-long camp friends. The past few years watching his grandson enjoying camp, like he always has, was wonderful for both of them. George loved music and was a drummer in a band during high school. He listened (and saw) lots of favorites: Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Elvis, Beach Boys, Bobby Darin, Mel Torme, Ricky Nelson, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. He attended South Side Hebrew Congregation in Chicago and later B’nai Tikvah in Deerfield. Over the years his management positions were at a food-service distributor to airlines; at John B. Sanfilippo & Son and Stamar Packaging. George’s great humor, tenderness & being such a kind, warm and likeable man touched so many throughout the years. He was a genuine and wonderful man. Our plentiful loving memories will help sustain our family from the heartbreaking loss, too soon, of our dearest George. May he rest in peace and know we will all someday be together again forever.
