In Loving Memory of

Beatrice Bloomfield

January 24th, 2021

Obituary

Beatrice Bloomfield had a philosophy that if you love long enough anything is possible. Her theme song was, “The Best of Times is Now”. She lived them for over 100 years. She was born in London, England, June 26, 1920. There her Soloway uncles taught her English vaudeville turns and Yiddish songs and began her lifetime love of entertaining. Bea’s parents, the late Louis and Dora Ronz, brought the family to Chicago in 1924. In 1933 she put herself in a 1933 Century of Progress talent show. She met Henry H. Bloomfield that year and married him in 1938 at age 17.

For 54 years Bea was Hank’s partner in all endeavors from business to fair housing, voting rights and anti-war activities. She served on Illinois’ Commission on the Status of Women. After Hank’s death she had a sweet marriage to Leo Osher.

All those years, Bea entertained temple groups, ORT, Hadassah, Brandeis and mitzvahs billed as “The Female Myron Cohen”. She was featured at Moody’s Pub in Palm Springs, CA and Old Jews Telling Jokes.

Bea is survived by the songs and laughter she gave us, the memories of generous support she gave to her big family and by daughters Rebecca (Jerry Pearlstein) Bloomfield, Ellie Bloomfield, Nancy Swimm; grandchildren Joshua Hillman, Pamela (Daniel) Landau, Nina (Al Murton) Swimm, Peter (Mady) Swimm; great grandchildren Leif, Aubrey, Amelia, Emma and Penelope; dozens of children and grandchildren of her departed siblings Sylvia (Joe) Siegel, Alyce (Max) Weisbach, Marvin (Rita) Ronz, and brother-in-law Irwin Bloomfield.

The graveside service will be private. The service will be livestreamed Monday, 3:00 p.m. CST at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com.
