Sandra Lee Brottman

Obituary

Sandra Lee Brottman (nee Epstein), 86, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2020. Sandra was the loving wife of the late Irwin Brottman for 49 years. She was the proud and loving mother of Dr. Phillip (Paula) Brottman, Dr. David (Jan) Brottman, and Stuart (Francine) Brottman. Grandmother to Aaron (Becky Pechter), Leah, Daniel, Lena, Joe, Eli, and the late Becca. Great-grandmother to Caroline and Graham. Sandra was proceeded in death by her parents, the late Jack and Pearl Epstein, and her sister, the late Corinne Beller.
Sandy’s family was of the utmost importance to her. She supported her children and grandchildren through all of their endeavors including band concerts, sporting events, music lessons, photography, tennis, college and graduate school, art, theater, charitable work, and mathematics competitions, to name a few. Openly or quietly, she watched, listened, and learned alongside her children and grandchildren. She was so proud.
Her love of Irwin began when she met him while attending high holiday services at the University of Illinois. A never-ending love story began. Sandy was Irwin’s partner in life and all that it offered. Now, they are together again, and they will continue their journey together.
Sandy loved all things art: fine art, opera, the symphony, theater, and literature. The most meaningful works of art to her were those created by Irwin, which filled her home.
Sandy’s commitment to the Jewish community and scholarship was infinite. Beth Tikvah Congregation was a paramount part of her life and her family’s life for 53 years. Sandy was president of the Beth Tikvah Sisterhood and the president of the Midwest Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. Her commitment to the Jewish faith extended to OSRUI, a Jewish summer camp, which all of her children attended, and which she supported as a board member.
Sandy will be missed by all, family and friends. She will live on in our thoughts, our memories, and our actions each and every day.
