Shirley G. Steinberg

Obituary

Shirley Steinberg, nee Garnice, 99, passed away on July 17 in her home in Chicago, IL. Shirley was a native of Staten Island, Ny residing in West Brighton and then Somers, New York and finally Chicago, Illinois. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Daniel Steinberg and her son, Alan. She was a Curtis HS graduate and received a B.A. from the Baruch College of the City University of New York. She also received a Masters Degree in teaching. Shirley was a beloved teacher at P.S. 45 for more than 20 years. She wintered in Longboat Key, Florida where she was president of the ORT chapter, an organization training youth for technical vocational skills in the United States and Israel. She is survived by her daughter Merri Ex and husband Mitchell who live in Chicago and grandchildren Abigail and Nina. She is also survived by Alan’s wife Karen; grandchildren, Jonathan and his husband, Josh Graff, Matthew and his wife Jennifer and great-grandchildren; Dylan, Luke, and Juliette.
