Obituary

Barry Mills Hackner, passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 2nd. He fought a long, hard battle with recurring meningiomas (brain tumors) over the past five years, and we are glad he is no longer suffering. He was a man full of energy, light, and love, and brought enthusiasm to everything he did, and everyone he talked to. His passion for the arts-particularly photography-was one of his life’s greatest joys. He was most proud of a photo he took of Barack Obama the day he announced he was running for president, and his house was practically wallpapered with all of the images he took over the years (including during the Vietnam War). He obsessively loved the city of Chicago, his family and friends, and Vietnamese food-and would have lived several hundred years if he could. We are most grateful that he shared his incessant curiosity, imagination, and love for photography with us. And we wish him peace and happiness in the great beyond. Barry is survived by his daughter, Michaela, his son, Will and his brother John. Service Friday 11AM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 195 N. Buffalo Grove Road (One block north of Lake Cook Road) Buffalo Grove. Interment Shalom. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the Brain Science Foundation to help fund much-needed research on meningiomas.
