Obituary

Simon Weltman passed away peacefully on July 25, 2018 in Skokie, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was proceeded in death by his wife Margaret Weltman and his sister Sara Colin. He is survived by his children Varda (Scott) Diamond, Chicago, Yigael (Lila) Weltman, Skokie and Eitan (Gina) Weltman, Bloomington, IL, grandchildren Wendy (Matthew) Diamond Goodman, Tamar Diamond, Talor Weltman, Lindsey Weltman, and David Weltman, great grandchildren Daniel Goodman and Eli Goodman. He is also survived by his brother Jacques (Adel) Weltmann. Simon was born on July 20, 1918 and had just recently celebrated his 100th birthday. He grew up in Magdeburg, Germany and left with his family to France when the Nazis came to power. He left for The British Mandate of Palestine in 1934. He helped in founding the Kibbutz of Ein Gev on the Sea of Galilee. He subsequently spent 6 years in the British Army and fought in WWII. He fought in Israel’s War of Independence and then spent 14 years in the Israeli Air Force retiring as a Captain. He immigrated to the United States in 1963. He was a pioneer and helped instill in his children a sense of adventure, honesty, integrity and the importance of an education. Graveside service Friday 11AM at Shalom Memorial Park (Section VIII Nebo), 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School New Building Fund, www.bernardzell.org or Jewish National Fund www.jnf.org.
